We are about to sell the Volvos to someone which can make use of them and hopefully get some track time out of them.

Sunday, October 30, 2005

Well we found the problem everyone has been talking about with the blue volvo, the bottom gasket is stuffed :(. Looks like the engine will have to come out.
We have two options at the moment:
1. we fix that motor and live with it
2. we get that beafier 2.3lt off Angus and shove that in

I took off the door and hopefully someone can tell us the trick to get these things in. We have the wrong set of books for this car all it says to do is:
Step 1. take door off
2. take clips off
3. take window out
4. put new window in, don't scratch it
5. put door on

it's shit, looks like we need the bentley brand of books

blue beast

We continued working on the blue beast this week with Amanda's help so we got a lot more done. We managed to wash, sand back and put primer on all the rust.

Here is Amanda putting some final touches to the bonnet.

Then we spent some time taking everything out of the car and vacuuming up all the died insects and glass inside which we broke when we picked the car up. Angus came over and dropped us off a new window for the back so next week we might put that in.

It was a great day, we got heaps done and we got to drive the car up and down the street for fun. It's like boat.

Today we worked on getting the blue 245 volvo up to scratch. We had to find the fuel relay as it was suspected broken. We found the relay under the dash and it was totally blown. We couldn't find a replacement relay at the stores they would have to get one in and it would cost a bit. Luckly Angus from the volvo rally forumn had plenty of relays and he came over and deliveried to us the relays.

Mark tried to start the car and as Brad, Angus and I watched under the hood, the fuel pump started up and fuel started to piss out all over the coil. Nice!. No fire though so that was good, looks like the fuel pump will need a bit of work next week.

We also started painting the blue beast with some patchy white primer, so it should be ready next week for a coat of 'soft blue'.

What is left as far as I can tell on the blue volvo is:

  • fix up all rust spots with sandpaper and paint
  • put a new window in the back door
  • get the fuel filter working or replace
  • check the engine for blown head gasket
  • car detail in and out, this will take some time
  • then we will get a list from attempting a road worthy on the car.

I figure lots of this will not cost much apart from the last one where we will have to get a new windscreen and a few other things for sure.

and now for something from the past here are some shots from brads camera the day we cleaned up the rally car floor.

I spent the day attending to my car, which isn't a volvo but this picture does have some of the rally car in it.

So we got our volvo mechanic to fix it up

The Red car was over heating for some reason, we found that the water was just a tad old.

Here is our Blue Volvo 245, it's sad looking now and it had two slashed tyres and lots of big hairy spiders. We threw in some nerve gas to kill the hairy things and changed the two tyres.

We got it to work and this is were we travelled to. What we did was attached the two strongberg carbs and fuel lines, then poured petrol down the carbs and away she went :).

Here's us scratching our heads over a broken red volvo.
